Young Adult Therapy
Everyone said this would be the best time of your life. Instead it feels like standing at the edge of something huge with no map — figuring out who you are, what you want, and how to actually adult, all while it seems like everyone else has it together.
If you're somewhere between who you were and who you're becoming, this is a space to find your footing.
This season is harder than anyone admits
Emerging adulthood — roughly your late teens into your twenties — is one of the biggest transitions there is. School, career, money, moving out, new relationships, shifting family dynamics, and the pressure to have it all figured out. It's completely normal to feel anxious, lost, or behind. You're not failing. You're building.
For young Black women especially, there's often an added layer: high expectations, being the first to do things, code-switching, and carrying the hopes of everyone who poured into you. That's a lot to hold at 22.
What we help with
Therapy in this season gives you a space that's just for you. Together, you and your therapist can work on:
• Figuring out your identity, values, and what YOU actually want
• Building independence — decisions, money, adulting, and self-trust
• Managing anxiety, overwhelm, and comparison (yes, including social media)
• Setting healthy boundaries with family while honoring your roots
• Navigating relationships, dating, and friendship shifts
• Quieting the perfectionism and 'I should be further along' voice
How therapy helps you launch
This isn't about someone telling you what to do. It's about building self-awareness, coping tools, and confidence so you can move through this chapter grounded instead of just surviving it. Your therapist may draw from approaches like motivational interviewing, client-centered and Adlerian therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), narrative work, and feminist theory. Think of it as investing early in the foundation the rest of your life gets built on.
Culturally grounded, judgment-free
Our therapists get the specific pressures facing young Black women and women of color. You won't have to explain or justify your world here — just show up as you are and grow from there.
Young adult therapy across Illinois & Georgia
We offer secure telehealth therapy to young and emerging adults throughout Illinois and Georgia, including Chicago and Atlanta — which means you can connect from your dorm, apartment, or wherever life has you right now, on a schedule that works around class and work.
Your whole care team: this is a core focus across our practice — every one of our clinicians specializes in supporting young and emerging adults, so we can match you with the therapist who feels like the best fit.
If you've always been the high-achiever — the gifted kid, the one with the plan — early adulthood can hit hard. Perfectionism and imposter syndrome love this season: the pressure to have it all figured out, the comparison to everyone who looks further ahead, the fear that a wrong move proves you were never that capable. You don't have to have it together to start. This is a place to unhook your worth from your resume and build a life that's actually yours.
