Life Transitions Therapy

You're standing at a threshold — between the life you knew and whatever comes next. Maybe you chose this change, maybe it chose you. Either way, you feel the ground shifting, and you're not quite sure who you are on the other side of it yet.

Transitions, even the good ones, can leave you anxious, unmoored, or grieving what was. This is a space to find steady footing as you step into what's next.

The transitions we support

Change comes in many forms, and all of them can shake you. We support women navigating:

• Career shifts — a new role, a layoff, a pivot, or leaving something that no longer fits

• New motherhood, matrescence, and shifting family roles

• Relocation and starting over somewhere new

• Divorce, separation, or the end of a defining relationship

• Empty nest, caregiving for aging parents, and midlife reflection

• Identity, faith, or personal shifts — becoming someone new on your own terms

Why change is hard — even when it's good

Every transition asks you to let go of something familiar, even when you're moving toward something better. That in-between can stir up anxiety, self-doubt, and grief for the version of life you're leaving behind. Feeling wobbly doesn't mean you made the wrong choice — it means you're human, and you're growing.

How therapy helps

In therapy, you get a steady space to process the change and find your footing. Together, you and your therapist will:

• Make sense of what you're feeling and why this shift feels so big

• Reconnect with your values so your next steps actually feel like yours

• Build coping tools for the uncertainty and anxiety in between

• Honor what you're leaving behind while opening to what's ahead

• Step into your new chapter grounded, clear, and more yourself

Our approach

At Cultivate Your Essence, this work is collaborative, culturally responsive, and paced to you. Depending on what you need, your therapist may draw from client-centered care, narrative therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Adlerian therapy, motivational interviewing, and feminist theory — helping you author the next chapter on your own terms.

Life transitions therapy across Illinois & Georgia

We offer secure telehealth support to women navigating change throughout Illinois and Georgia, including Chicago, Atlanta, and surrounding areas, so you can find steady ground wherever life has you right now.

For high-achieving Black women, some of the hardest transitions are the ones that shake your sense of who you are — a promotion, a career pivot, leaving a role that once defined you. When your identity has been built on achieving and never dropping the ball, change can stir up perfectionism and imposter syndrome. Here, we help you figure out who you are beneath the accolades and step into what's next on your own terms.
